I’m not suffering yet – unless a little jet lag counts – but the questions from the passport control guy were ominous: “Why Norway? Why not the Netherlands or Denmark where it’s flat?” …And with that I’m welcomed to my Norwegian cycling adventure.
Nørdkapp to Copenhagen, Denmark. I have 30ish days to see how much of it I’ll cycle. A younger female cyclist I met in the Oslo airport assured me that that was the best way to go since I had more transportation options in the south if it didn’t look like I was going to finish on time.
Hey, wait a minute: Is this everyone worried about the viejita?!? That cyclist happens to be going the opposite direction, by the way. As is the guy whose conversation with the passport agent I overheard. I wonder if they know something I don’t? I like headwinds about as much as I like a sharp stick in the eye, which is obviously not at all, but no matter now. This is happening… provided my bike isn’t broken in a thousand tiny pieces when I arrive to Honningsvåg tomorrow evening on a three-stop puddle jumper.
Current weather in Honningsvåg – 45 F (7 C). That’s a big shift from home in tropical Mexico where lately it has been 90 F (31 C) with about 70 percent humidity.

Meanwhile, the sun is still high in the sky at 9:30 p.m. local time, but this viejita needs to sleep. Tomorrow the Arctic Circle where, Dios mediante, I’ll put my bike together, load it with nearly 30 pounds of gear (and an extra 10 in the form of my very own muffin top) and start pedaling…as you do.
